All of the works can be found on the pages of books and catalogues presented, in an effort to encourage the purchase of these volumes during our stay-at-home for the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Art of the Southern Vernacular
Hampton Art Lovers Presents: "The Art of the Southern Vernacular" featuring Leroy Campbell with Krystal Hart as apart of Black History Month.
African-American Vernacular English shares a large portion of its grammar and phonology with the rural dialects of the southern United States, and especially older southern American English, due to historical connections of African Americans to the region. American creole developed from one or more creole languages used by African captives of the Atlantic slave trade, due to the captives speaking many different native languages and therefore needing a new way to communicate among themselves and with their captors.

Ebony Broadsides, Celebration of the Masters
Hampton Art Lovers presents a curated archival signed poster exhibit exhibition of leading 20th century Black American artists.
“Ebony Broadsides, Celebration of the Masters”, features posters by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, Betye Saar, John Biggers, Lois Malou Jones, Gordon Parks, Roy DeCarava, Oliver Johnson, James Van Der Zee, Bernard Williams, James C. McMillan, Richard Yarde, Purvis Young, Bob Thompson, Varnette P. Honeywood, Richard Hunt, Georgette Seabrooke Powell and Ed Clark. The show also includes original signed poster art of Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, Samella Lewis, James Denmark and Basil Watson. With special artist proof and studies of poster art by Ernie Barnes and A.C. Hollingsworth.



Awakening, Sculpture and Drawings by Basil Watson
Hampton Art Lovers and Art of Black Miami Creative Conversations invites you to join us as we learn about the artistic vision of master sculptor Basil Watson and curator Christopher Norwood of Hampton Art Lovers, moderated by Rosie Gordon-Wallace of Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator.
This event is free and open to the public with lite bites provided.

Culture Cares
The South Florida Symphony Orchestra and Hampton Art Lovers at the Historic Ward Rooming House are leading an effort called Culture Cares - South Florida Humanities at Work for Bahamas Hurricane Relief, Wednesday, September 18th, from 6-8pm.
The event will raise monies for Operation Helping Hands, a collaborative effort of United Way of Miami-Dade and the Miami Herald, which supports the response, relief and recovery efforts in the areas affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas and surrounding areas impacted by this powerful storm.

The Indaba Series
The CALL: 400th Year Commemoration of the first Africans to be sold into bondage in North America in late August of 1619 at Jamestown, Virginia.
The RESPONSE: Hampton Art Lovers Presents "The Indaba Series" in conjunction with Brooklyn Combine - August 16th and 17th.

The Art of a Caged Bird Singing: The Personal Art Collection of Maya Angelou
Hampton Art Lovers has the distinct honor to showcase selections from the personal art collection of Maya Angelou. An acclaimed American poet, storyteller, activist, and autobiographer.
In "The Art of a Caged Bird Singing: The Personal Art Collection of Maya Angelou", we will showcase the artwork that adorned her home and inspired her poetry, including, Phoebe Beasley’s "Sunrise is Coming After Awhile." Inspired by the poetry of Langston Hughes, Beasley’s work illustrated a book of Langston Hughes poetry that was edited by Maya Angelou with an introduction and afterword penned by her. We will also exhibit an original lithograph by Tom Feelings which was lovingly inscribed and personalized to Dr. Angelou.

Franco Files: Visual Exploration of the Negritude in New Orleans, Haiti and Senegal
Franco Files: Visual Exploration of the Negritude in New Orleans, Haiti and Senegal is an exhibition of Fine Art Photographs by Brooklyn photographer Phillip Shung.
Shung has traveled extensively to discover the "connections" across the French colonies and the human capital that was plundered in the creation of the francophone world. The French colonial influence will be explored through the lens of an exceptional eye (Shung).
